SGPC Demands Apology For Jay Leno’s Remarks
on: 24-Jan-2012

AMRTISAR: Taking strong note of a joke by US television presenter host Jay Lends programme in which he said that the Harmandar Sahib was a summer home for wealthy US presidential candidate Mitt Romney, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has appealed to the US government that a case be registered against the presenter.

In a statement, SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said that the comment was intolerable and it has hurt the sentiments of Sikhs across the globe.

"The Harmandar Sahib is the holiest Sikh shrine, and both VVIPs as well as common people consider it a privilege to get the chance to pay obeisance at the shrine. The channel as well as the presenter should issue a public apology to Sikhs all over the world for such statement," he said.

He further added that the SGPC had written letters to Prime Minister, foreign minister and the American embassy to take the required action in this regard.
