SANSKRIT LITERATURE contained many ideas which could solve our social and environment problems, said Dr Vachaspati Upadhyaya, Vice-Chancellor of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, on Friday at Amritsar.
He made this claim in his presidential remarks at the inauguration of the 2-day national seminar on “Social and Environment Disturbance: Remedial Steps in Sanskrit Literature” at the Department of Sanskrit, Pali and Prakrit in Guru Nanak Dev University.
Nearly 50 scholars are participating in the seminar.
‘Dr Upadhyaya saicl the root cause of conflict was mental disorder and a sense of sacrifice could set it right. He also released a publication on the contribution of Punjab to Sanskrit literature. Dr Lekh Ram Sharma and Dr Dalbir Singh have edited the text.
Dr. Shridhar Vasishth, director of the R.J. Dalmia Shrivani Trust at Scindia House in Delhi, delivered the keynote address on terrorism, deteriorating family relations, water and air pollution and depletion of natural resources.
Earlier, Dr Raghbir Singh, Dean, Academic Affairs, welcomed the guests. “The epics written in Sanskrit contain valuable solutions to many current issues,” he said.
Dr Renu Bala, head of the GNDU Department of Sanskrit, Pali and Prakrit read out a brief report on the achievements of the department. Dr Lekh Ram Sharma, Professor of Sanskrit, also addressed the gathering.
