Golden temple amritsar, Darbar sahib, SGPC Golden Temple in Amritsar is the holiest shrine of the Sikh religion. It is situated in the heart of Amritsar city. It’s foundation was kept by Sufi Saint Miya Mir Ji in 1604. The temple building has four entrances instead of the usual single entry. Which shows that no cast discrimination is done there.

It welcomes every religion. The main north entrance is under a Victorian clock tower. Known as the Darshani Deori, the entrance is up a flight of steps and down again to the temple and holy tank. Amrit or holy Sarovar is situated in the midth of this temple. There is very large parikrama around the Sarovar. In parikrama there are four corners, where Granthis sits and recite the name of God.

The temple has two storeys. The main Granth Sahib is kept in the main temple. All the walls of this temple are well decorated with the carved wooden panels and elaborate inlay work in silver and gold. Guru Gobind Singh made Adi Granth as the Eleventh Guru for all the Sikhs. The Adi Granth, compiled by Guru Arjan Dev, rests on a throne beneath a jewel-encrusted canopy.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji right after he passed away Bhai mani Singh was made first head granthi of Golden Temple. The main domb of this temple is made by the 700kg of pure gold. There is one Super Natural Tree also. Which is famous for curing the diseases.

There is one Public Kitchen Hall also. Which was started by Guru Amar Das in the 16th century. This Kitchen feeds up to 10,000 people in a day, free of charges. The Akal Takht, next to the Golden Temple, is the seat of the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, the religious governing body of the Sikhs. Akal Takht Sahib was revealed by Guru Hargobind Singh in 1609. Here Guru Hargobind Sahib wore two swords of Miri and Piri.

At the eastern end are two brick watchtowers called the Ramgarhia Minars, which were damaged during Operation Blue Star in 1984. Golden Temple is open for all. It is very spick and span temple. Every body have to remove their shoes and cover their heads before entering the temple.

Photography is not allowed in the main temple. No Smoking is allowed inside the whole temple area. Holy communion is also served there. On the festival there is great hustle and bustle. Many volunteers are work there daily. There are many famous bazaars are also around this temple like Guru bazaar, Kesarian bazaar, Kathian bazaar, Mishri bazaar etc. There are also many dormitories around the temple for dwelling. The main attraction of this temple is gold. Which shines in Sunlight. Overall it is heaven on earth.
