Wins 5-golds and ‘Best Swimmer’ title in Punjab Open championships-2009
Having trained in Brisbane, Australia 14-year old Abhinav Dudeja Student of class 9th of D.A.V. Public School won 5 gold medals and set 2-New National records in the “34th Junior Punjab Swimming Championships” held in Ludhiana recently.
Declared the “Best Swimmer” in the Championships, Abhinav clocked 32.05 seconds in the 50 M Backstroke to the national record of 33.48 secs. In the 100m Backstroke he established yet another record, with his timing of 1.10.51 seconds to the national record of 1.11.92 seconds.
Mrs Neera Sharma School principal heartily congratulated the swimmer on his brilliant performance besides congratulating his proud parent Ajay and Poonam Dudeja and coach Mr Rajinder Kumar (Lovely) for their tremendous support to the youngster.
Besides golds and New records in U-14 boys 50 m backstroke and 100 M backstroke Abhinav also won gold in 200 m backstroke and showcased his mettle in 200 M individual Medley besides 100m Butterfly with Golds in both.
More than 600 swimmers had participated in the meet from Punjab, apart from swimmers from Chandigarh.
Earlier, Abhinav had secured the 6th position in 50 m backstroke at the “43rd International Children’s Games held in Athens, Greece” in June this year.
He had also set a new record in C.B.S.E. National Swimming Tournament last year in Vadodara (Gujrat) winning 12 medals in various categories of Swimming.
Adding another feather in his cap, after his medal count of more than 200 medals till date, Dudeja had also bagged the prestigious “Chacha Nehru National Swimming Scholarship”
His medal tally has risen since he was 6-years old. Abhinav tasted the flavor of international competition in February 2006 at a tournament held in Bangkok, Thailand, where he was able to clear the first round making him eligible for the Australian entry where he was given rigorous training in a fortnight long camp, said his coach Rajinder.
Last year In C.B.S.E. North Zone swimming championship at Sonepat, Dudeja claimed four medals. He won two gold medals in 50 mts. backstrokes and 100 mts. backstrokes respectively. A silver medal in 100 mts. freestyle and a Bronze medal in 200 mts. Individual medal.
