To lend support to MP Navjot Singh Sidhu and build pressure on the high command, some BJP district office bearers have offered to resign over the issue of appointment of Rajinder Mohan Singh Chinna as chairman of the Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT).
Sources said at a meeting at the residence of former Mayor Subash Sharma, over 10 office bearers offered to resign in favour of Sidhu, among them district vice-president Subash Sharma and Rural president Ram Sharan.
The group of district president Col Amrik Singh (retd) is working to garner support for Sidhu, who miffed at the appointment of Chinna had sent his resignation letter.
Col Singh (retd) confirmed that some workers had submitted their resignation, but said “there is no need to accept it as the high command has hinted that the matter would be resolved amicably by Tuesday”.
