THE MUCH-AWAITED radio taxi service will be launched in the city on May 4, much to the relief for tourists and locals. ‘Mega Cabs‘, the company that’ will start the service, will have 25 in the beginning and is expected to increase its fleet soon.
The company that launched the service in Mohali recently’ will charge Rs 15 per km. To call this air conditioned round the-clock cab, the passengers need to dial a toll-free number 5151515.
As per the company officials, the cabs will set to roll operate 40 km around Amritsar. Besides local tourists destinations, including Harmandar Sahib, Jallianwala Bagh, Ram Tirath, the passengers can also hire these cabs for airport, Ajnala, Tarn Taran, Rayya and other nearby destinations.
Talking to HT, a company official, Arvind Kumar said, “We did a lot of research before coming to Amritsar and found that this vastly visited city lacks a public transport system. Besides the large inflow of tourists also forced us to start the service here.”
