Two days after Rs 12 lakh were snatched from two salesmen at Tarn Taran after blinding them with chilli powder, the police have caught five men as accused and claimed to have recovered Rs 10 lakh of the stolen cash.
Accused Najbir Singh, Jasbir Singh, Satnam Singh, Gurvel Singh and Amandeep Singh have been arrested and accused Baaj Singh is yet to be caught.
Tarn Taran Senior Superintendent of Police Sukhdev Singh Brar said Mandeep Singh and Lakhbir Singh were the salesmen who had been robbed on Tuesday.
The victims had collected payment worth Rs 10 lakh from a shop in Bhikhiwind on Monday and shop employee Baaj Singh had allegedly passed on this information to the other accused to enable them to plan a robbery.
The five other accused way laid Mandeep and Lakhbir near Patti Mor and accused Najbir and Jasbir allegedly threw red-chilli powder in their eyes to take away the cash.
The police made the arrests from various locations in Tarn Taran. The accused had visited Chandigarh and Ferozepur after committing the robbery, says the SSP.
“Rs 10 lakh has been recovered and the remaining amount is with accused Baaj Singh,” the’ SSP adds.
