Amritsar, July 18
Activists of the Kisan Sangharsh Committee on Friday staged a demonstration outside the office of the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) at Khasa village, near the border, to demand implementation of their demands.
Zonal presidents Satnam Singh Pannu and Jasbir Singh accused the SAD-BJP government of not keeping their promise of providing uninterrupted power supply for eight hours.
On July 12, officials of the PSEB had imposed a fine of nearly Rs 24lakh on farmers in Cheecha village for increasing the load of their motors and also registered cases against them Such acts would not be tolerated, they warned.
Regarding the increase of sanctioned load for tubewells under the Voluntary Disclosure Scheme, the leaders said the charges for that had been increased from the promised Rs 1,200 per horse power to Rs 3,800, which would be an additional burden. They demanded the increase be taken back.
The protesters also wanted the fines imposed by the PSEB and the police cases to be taken back.
