Amritsar, July 17
FORMED WITH an aim to promote the habit of cycling the newly formed City Cycling Club is gaining ground.
The club that had started in the city with merely five members has now nearly 100 members and is gaining strength.
It may be mentioned that keeping in mind the growing traffic and pollution problem, the City
Cycling Club had come into existence a few months back. But now, apart from promoting the habit of cycling amongst people, the club members are also putting an effort to promote the culture of maintaining greenery and cleanliness. Talking on this, Club General Secretary Vivek Arora said, “We started with five members and now we have nearly 100 members in our club. Looking into the pollution and traffic issue, we developed an idea that cycling must be promoted.” The idea also was that today people are getting lethargic and dependent on vehicles, so cycling will also cut that dependency and promote their health and attitude, he added
Commenting on the cycling generation, Arora, said, “People from various walks of life are members of our club and such is the situation that many who earlier drove cars and bikes are now using cycles most of the time.”
Other than this, now we are also on the job to promote greenery. We are launching cycling rallies and marches to promote cycling. Our aim is that maximum number of people must take to cycling so that they not only maintain their health but also get freed of traffic nuisance, he added.
