Amritsar, July 4
AFTER A hue and cry over corruption ill the Death and Birth Certificate Department, the Municipal Corporation today sacked all six ad hoc employees. The six interestingly had not been paid any salary for the past year-and-a-half but never complained.
The MC office was flooded with complaints of corruption and in the last House meeting, even the ruling party councilors had dubbed the department a “den of corruption”.
MC Commissioner D.P.S. Kharbanda said in view of the complaints, the six temporary employees had been sacked and permanent staff put on the job to fix accountability. He said the MC has put up a hoarding listing the fee for registration, late entry and correction in death and birth records with MC.
“All the new employees have assumed charge and have been directed to clear pendency at the earliest,” said the
Commissioner, adding that anyone facing problems in future can directly contact the Assistant Commissioner or him.
SAD councillor Surinder Singh Sultanwind, who raised the matter in the previous meeting of the House, said it was a good step, but demanded an inquiry to fix responsibility of the officers who allowed the six employees to continue work when their tenure expired a long time back.
