Amritsar, July 3
AFTER JALANDHAR, Amritsar got its first case of swine flue today, with an 11-year old boy who landed at the Rajasansi International Airport from Canada on Wednesday testing positive.
The boy, Karmanpreet Singh, has been admitted to the swine flue ward in the Civil Hospital.
The n-year-old, on an Air India flight, was found with flu symptoms and examined by a medical team deputed at the air port. The team rushed him to the Civil Hospital and samples were sent to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases in New Delhi. Today; his report came positive.
Civil Surgeon D. Lehmber Singh said, “It might take a week for the recovery. We will also keep a check on his mother and sister who traveled with him from Toronto.” The three were to go to Ludhiana to meet family members.
Dr S.P. Singh, who headed the medical team at the airport, said there were 230 passengers on the flight and each one was medically examined.
Meanwhile, DC Kahan Singh Pannu said all precautions would be taken to ensure that the flu does not spread.
