NGO urges government to form district water saving boards
Mission Aagaaz, a NGO that is making ceaseless efforts to save ecology and planet earth from devastation by – spreading awareness, has urged the government to form district water saving boards to spread awareness to check the depleting water level of Punjab.
A team of NGO met Dr Baldev Raj Chawla, Chairman of Punjab State Water Supply & Sewerage Board, and urged him to do the needful in the direction of saving water and ensuring rainwater harvesting.
Led by Deepak Babbar, the NGO member’s urgea Chawla to form District Level Water Saving Boards in all the districts of Punjab, comprising members from the Administration, XENs from the Irrigation Department and representatives of various NGOs.
The board would be responsible for monitoring water table, overall position of water available through various sources etc. The board would also check wastage of water at domestic, industrial and agriculture sectors.
There is an urgent need to stop wastage of water as we are already reeling under the threat of drought.
Even the electricity production is also· dependent upon water.
Apart from the above, the Board would also identify the industrial units, which throw effluents in water sources and ensure that strict action is taken against the erring industry, said the NGO members. Babbar also urged Dr Chawla to implement roof water harvesting of rainwater in all the buildings i.e. residential and commercial.
The Chairman urged the people to adopt eco-friendly lifestyle to save natural resources so that the threats of global warming
