MAJITHIA SLAMS CENTRE ON RELIEF

CABINET MINISTER Bikram Singh Majithia today came down on the Centre for not coming to the aid of Punjab’s flood-hit, saying the indifference towards the state was typical of the UPA.
The Minster was speaking to the media after flagging off 20 trucks carrying relief material.
He said the Congress’ unresponsiveness had left the state unit embarrassed “Forget relief, no one has so far issued a statement acknowledging the situation in Punjab,” said Majithia.
The relief trucks are carrying stables, tarpaulins, fodder, drinking water, toiletries, medicines and other commodities Gohalwarh for the flood affected areas of Ferozepur and Kapurthala. The Youth Akali Dal, Amritsar, and SAD workers arranged the material.
Majithia said nearly 1.45 lakh acres and 1,04,086 people have been affected and 4,551 houses damaged. Thirty-five lives have been lost and 47 cattle heads have perished. The minister ha demanded Rs 15,000 per acre Central crop compensation.
