Ex-Durgiana panel gen secy remanded

A LOCAL court today sent Durgiana committee former general secretary rajinder bhalla in two-day police remand in connection with embezzlement of committee funds worth cores of rupees.
The police were after bhalla along with the then committee president,Surinder Arjun,after registration of a case under section 406,420,380,120-B of the IPC agianst them.
After evading arrest for nearly a year, Bhalla on Monday surrender before the court of junior magistrate. First Class K.K.Jain, who had issued non-bailable warrants against him. The court today rejected bhalla’s bail application.
On the other hand,the court has started the procedure to declare Surinder Arjun as a proclaimed offerer. Non-bailable warrants have already been issued against him.
While bhalla was a former congress councilor, Arjun was a BSP leader and had contested lok Sabha elections from the Amritsar seat.
In the FIR, the committee has charged the two of embezzlement of temple funds,breaking the Toshakhana (strong room having gold ornament and valuables). The committee has alleged the two took away fixed deposits of Rs6 crore, Indira Vikas Patra worth RS10 lakhs, LIC mutual funds of Rs15 lakh and gold ornament.
