EATING HABITS OF AMBERSARIA’S

Though no official statistical figure are available but we presume that Ambersareas must be at the top in per capita consumption of desi ghee in the country. The mouth watering Amritsar cuisines like prantha, Aallo Wala Kulcha, Pini, Gur-Da-Karah, Samosa, Kachori leave their impression on the currency notes in use in the Holy City.

             It is said that one’s visit to the Holy City is not complete till he of She visits any of the famous Amritsar Dhaba-Kesar Da-Dhaba, Bharwan da Dhaba or Kundan-Da- Dhaba. Its multi layered paratha and maa di lal at tract people from far away places. A plate of phirni or Kheer is the ideal sweet dish Sarso Da Saag and Makki Di Roti are hot favourites in Winter.

            One may be fond of Chinese, Mughlai oc Continental food but at Queens Road, Pal Da Dhaba at Hathi Gate and Parkash Meat at improvement trust market and Race Course Road the palces excellence in non-veg food. Other non-vegetarian delights are fried fish, Mutton Tikka Kebads, Mutton Champs, Keema Nanas, Kharore Da Soup etc.

             Let us talk about very special about Amritsar i.e. Gian Di Lassi, Ahuje Di Lassi, Kanhaya Di Puri, Bansal De Laddu, Munim Di Pinni, Novelty’s sweet, Durga Di Ice Cream, Dharame De Kulcha-Chole. Many sweet shops attached with different Mandir Trust are also serving people with pure ghee delcious preparations.

           Same of the seasonal specialists of Amritsar are Guru Da Karah, Pinni In Winter, Kheer, Malpura in Spring, Thandai, Sharbat in summer, a glass of lassi, is all time favourite of Ambersaias. Jalabies of Ahluwalia Chowk and Gullab Jamuns of Pandit Ji of Lawrence Road are ideal sweet dishes Jalbis are taken with hot milk as a tonic in winters. There is no comparison of Kulch-Chole of Amritsar, as this particular eatable is available in Amritsar only. Mungra Sewian, mathi, mungi di lall de ladoo, samosa, satpura and kachori with launji and chatni are snacks relished with evening tea. There is no fixed times for paneer pakoda or vegetable pakodas, Brijwasi chat at Queens Road and Rani Ka Bagh attracts lot of people. Amin chand Soda water Co. at Gharntaghar Chowk is famous for Lemon Shake, Pista milk Badam milk.

             Though all sorts of Indian and Chinese foods are available at very cheap rates on rehris on Mdan Mohan Malviya Road and other palces but now internationally renowned McDonald’s is also coming at Celebration Mall in near future.
