GOBINDGARH FORT OF AMRITSAR

GOBINDGARH FORT OF AMRITSAR fort was called Bhangian Da killa and built in 1760 by the army of Gujjar Singh Bhangi of Misl. Later on it was rebult by Maharaja Ranjit Singh and renamed it after the name of 10th Sikh Guru as Gobindgarh. This was done in the year 1806.
Later on it was occupied by British Army and they added residence of infamous General Dyer, Darbar hall, Hawa Mahal and Phansighar in it.
In December 2006 Prime Minister of Punjab capt. Amrinder Singh and declared it open for general public and tourists. Now state government is chalking out renovation plans before opening it for public.
Punjab Government is planning to build a memorial dedicated to Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 15 acres of land adjacent to the fort.
Other places of interest in city are Sri Ram Tirath, Ranjit Singh Meuseum, Shivala Vir Bhan, Shivala Bhainya, Mata Mandir Model Town, Mandar Longa Devi, saragari Gurudwara etc.
